The Trust proposes to encourage scientific research into replacing carbon-intensive reducing agents with renewable Green Hydrogen in iron ore reduction and steelmaking.

Renewable energy and green hydrogen electrolysis vision
Clean Energy Vector

Solar-Powered Water Electrolysis (H₂)

Generating zero-emission hydrogen gas using captive solar energy.

Green steel metallurgical research and direct reduction
Low-Carbon Metallurgy

Hydrogen Direct Reduction (H₂-DRI)

Reducing iron ore into sponge iron with water vapour (H₂O) as the clean by-product.

Step 01 • Renewable Input

Solar Electricity

Harnessing high-efficiency solar photovoltaic power to supply clean, renewable electricity for electrochemical processes.

Step 02 • Electrolysis

Green H₂ Production

Splitting water (2H₂O → 2H₂ + O₂) using renewable power to produce zero-emission Green Hydrogen and studying safe storage.

Step 03 • Direct Reduction

H₂ Iron Ore Reduction

Using hydrogen as a reducing agent (Fe₂O₃ + 3H₂ → 2Fe + 3H₂O) to produce sponge iron (DRI), emitting water vapour instead of CO₂.

Step 04 • Clean Metallurgy

Captive Green Steel

Integrating hydrogen-reduced sponge iron with renewable electric melting to advance low-carbon green steel and industrial decarbonisation.

Institutional Transparency Note: Solar Energy, Green Hydrogen, and Green Steel initiatives represent the Trust’s proposed research vision and intended areas of scientific collaboration. Academic and engineering institutions are invited to partner.
